Add Validation Rules to Custom Field design

When adding a custom field it would be useful to be able to set a rule to limit input in the field to  certain characters or a pattern. For example must be four digits between 0 and 9, or six characters alpha only. If input doesn't comply a pop-up message informs the user and prevents continuing until corrected.
